Bye Bye Microbeads Ceremony

11/08/2023

Hair Corner actively participates in the "Bye Bye Microbead Charter" action of the Environmental Protection Department. Facial cleansers, shower gels, and shampoos sold by Hair Corner do not contain microbeads. Hair Corner actively participates in Hong Kong's environmental protection. Hong Kong's Department of Protection officially launched a voluntary phase-out plan for personal care and cosmetic products containing microbeads in September 2021, in conjunction with the implementation of the Bye Bye Microbeads Charter to help consumers choose products that do not contain microbeads.

We actively carry out staff training to continuously learn about micro-beads, how they affect our life and environment, and to assist the Environmental Protection Department in raising public awareness of micro-beads-related issues. We hope we can do our part and make an effort to create a green  and sustainable environment!

Environmental Protection Tips

What are Microbeads❓
Microplastics are plastic debris with a diameter of less than 5 mm. Microplastics found in aquatic environments come in various shapes (such as fibers, particles, films, etc.), and their sources are also different.

Microbeads are a type of microplastics, which are solid plastic particles with a diameter of less than 5 mm. They are usually added to some rinse-off personal care and cosmetic products for scrubbing, exfoliating, or cleaning purposes.

What are the effects of microbeads on the environment and human health❓
Microbeads are similar in size to plankton, which are easily eaten by many marine organisms that subsequently enter the food chain. At the same time, chemical substances may also adhere or accumulate on the surface of the microbeads, posing potential risks to marine ecosystems and human health. Although there is much academic literature and articles published about microbeads, opinions remain divided. Therefore, the impact and effects of microbeads pollution on the environment and human health still require further and continual research.
